After graduating from high school, Charles Weaver took a few years off before making the decision to pursue a college degree. He enrolled at Truman College after recovering from a drug and alcohol addiction and was drawn to the college because of its convenient location, flexible class options, and strong psychology program.

Charles is enjoying his time at Truman– he can tell that his teachers are interested in what they teach, and the federal work study program has offered him lots of opportunities.

“The energy here is really good,” he said.

Charles is glad that City Colleges of Chicago has strong transfer agreements with plenty of four-year institutions and is confident that his credits will transfer easily wherever he’s headed next. After he finishes school, Charles hopes to begin a career in therapy or addiction counseling.

He is also glad to share words of encouragement with anyone who is thinking about returning to school.

"If you think you’re done with school and it hasn’t gone well for you, you’re not. You don’t have to be done with school. You can always come back, and this is a great place to do it at."
