Early College program at Malcolm X College
Tia Wilson has always wanted to be a nurse. Now, the Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy High School senior is a big step closer.
In addition to the 44 college credit hours she earned while still in high school, Tia also has her first post-secondary credential: Community Health Care Worker, Basic Certificate. While she worked toward her high school diploma, she added college classes to her already busy schedule – saving time and money. She also got hands-on experience volunteering for Be the Match.
“It was a good experience and a good idea. It shows you what college is like and gets you in the right mindset. When I start my classes at UIC in the fall, I’ll already have been a college student for two years thanks to the Early College program at Malcolm X College,” said Tia.
She’ll start her pre-nursing classes this fall at UIC, and ultimately, become a nurse practitioner.
