Elaine Brooks stopped attending high school when her kids were born. While working her way up to management positions in restaurants, then in retail, getting her GED was always in the back of her mind. She tried going back many times, but between work and raising her children, something always stopped her.

Now that her kids are grown, she felt there was no reason not to finally put herself first, and signed up for GED prep classes at Olive-Harvey College. With the support of her teachers and the staff at Olive-Harvey, as well as help from the Tutoring Center, Elaine has achieved her goal and celebrated with classmates at the CCC GED Completion Ceremony in June 2018

But Elaine isn’t stopping at earning her GED – she is now part of Olive-Harvey College’s Gateway Program, which provides Adult Education students with reduced tuition and other support as they transition into credit classes. After years of working in retail, Elaine is interested in studying business and starts classes toward her associate degree in the fall of 2018.
