Julisa was excited when she found out she qualified for the Star Scholarship, which paid for her tuition and books at CCC while getting her associate degree. “I didn’t have the money to attend a four-year university, so I decided to take advantage of the Star Scholarship to get me halfway through. It was a weight off my shoulders.”

When she graduated from World Language High School in the Little Village neighborhood in 2015, she started taking classes at Malcolm X College. She decided to work at a restaurant while she studied, so she could save for the next school she would attend to earn her bachelor’s degree. She was also a part of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Julisa earned her associate degree in May 2018, and now she’s headed to UIC to study finance, with the help of a scholarship from CCC partner CME Group.
