Had it not been for his being a few credits shy of graduating, Anthony Canela may never have found his passion for what has led to a successful career.
Anthony served in the Navy from 2002 to 2006 in Norfolk, Virginia and worked a handful of jobs after his discharge. A period of indecisiveness followed, and that led him to City Colleges of Chicago’s Malcolm X College in 2013. He excelled there, was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and was president of Malcolm’s Veterans Club.
As he approached completion of his associate degree, he realized he was short several credit hours and decided to enroll in one of Malcolm X College’s then-new personal trainer courses to make up the difference.
Completing his degree in the Spring 2015, Anthony continued on for another semester to achieve his Personal Fitness Trainter Basic Certificate. Now he’s excelling as a personal trainer with XSport. He served our country, then served himself (an education), and now serves Chicago (as a master trainer).
